Obedience 101

Dogs Aged: 6 months and up                                    Prior Training Required: None

Obedience 101 is a basic pet obedience class designed to teach our pets good manners and socialization at home and while in the community. If your dog has not yet had an obedience class, or has been through Puppy Kindergarten, Obedience 101 is your next step!

We will focus on good manners at home and in the community. We will discuss appropriate equipment for each dog, why we teach with positive reinforcement training, and these commands: sit, stay, down, come, walking loosely on a leash, meeting and greeting friendly strangers and other dogs on a leash, dealing with distractions, avoid jumping, and separation stays.

At the end of our six-week training class, the 10-step non-competitive CGC test will be offered. All dogs who pass the CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club, both purebreds and mixed breeds. The Canine Good Citizen test is a prerequisite for many therapy dog groups and some homeowner’s insurance companies encourage CGC testing. There are also an increasing number of apartments and condos that require resident dogs to pass the CGC test.
