Water Obsession with Jen

What is it?

  • Class is held at a spring-fed private lake near GVSU's Allendale Campus. Directions to the location will be sent after registration as it is held at a private home, not our training facility.

Who Can Attend?

  • This class is OPEN TO PUBLIC, so pet dogs as well as service dogs can attend, up to 2 dogs per handler.
  • For second dog, enter a separate registration

What Will We Learn?

  • This class is a fun- and play-based activity. Dogs who can swim or are just learning, will be able to:
  • Learn how to safely enter and leave the water from shore, dock, and boat.
  • Kayak and/or Paddleboard skills. If you have your own, and want to bring it after the first week, that's fine. We have a few to borrow during class as needed.
  • Life vests: When needed, and what types are preferred.
  • Safely swimming next to handler within arms reach.
  • Health exercises to do at home to keep our dogs at peak summer swim levels.
  • Commands for Lake, Boat, and Swim safety. These include:
  • Shore
  • Go Out
  • Circle
  • Left / Right
  • Take It
  • Hold
  • Give
  • Do I have to commit to the whole season?
  • No, this is a fun-based class. Taking time for other activities or vacations are just fine.
  • What is the cost and what does it cover?
  • Class fees will be $5 per dog per session. You will not owe for any sessions missed.
  • This covers the expenses to keep the lake area mowed, and free of debris.
  • What happens at the last session?
  • A PARTY! We will hold a potluck on Thursday, August 11, 2022.
  • Bring a dish/snack to pass along with your usual class equipment. We will be playing some dog-based games (Cutest Face, Best Jump, etc.) and dog-based trivia.
  • Is there a make-up date for last session if weather is poor?
  • If there is poor weather on Thursday, August 11th, we will hold the potluck / last session on Thursday, August 18th instead.
